Season, tourist mix, and SKUs that do not come back

Gift and souvenir shops are judged on a full year, not December or the festival weekend. Buyers map tourist weeks, local-regular mix, and rent that does not take the off-season off. A shop that covers occupancy when the tour buses stop is a business. A shop that only works next to a peak calendar is a lease bet.

Cards, wrapping, and consumable add-ons still turn. Branded souvenirs and one-off artisan pieces that you personally selected may not reorder the same way. We age the stock and separate house-made or consigned artisan goods from ordinary wholesale.

Rep lines and whether the buyer can keep them

Gift-rep relationships are often personal and territory-based. Some lines will open for a successor; some will not if the buyer already has a competing shop or no showroom history. Exclusive or “only here in town” stories need a written letter, not a handshake, before we treat them as durable.

E-commerce and wholesale to other retailers get their own page in the book. A pretty brick-and-mortar room does not rescue a Shopify habit that is really you packing boxes at night, and it does not hide a wholesale account that is one boutique on a handshake.

What we put in a gift-shop book before anyone tours

Monthly sales for at least one peak season and the quiet months around it, a simple vendor list with any exclusives, and the remaining lease plus options in writing. If you sit in a hospital, hotel, museum, or park concession, that license is the deal—assignment rules there are stricter than a strip-center lease.

Mark consignment before marketing. Gift-card balances belong on a schedule. A buyer who walks into a room of unlabeled artisan holds will assume the worst of the inventory count and haircut everything they cannot prove you own.

Frequently asked questions

Yes if the local-regular months still carry rent and the peak history is documented. We will not annualize a festival August and call it a year.
